Walkfest 24 - £940 Donation

Community Windpower & BeGreen Dunbar are delighted to announce that we are sponsoring the East Lothian Walkfest again this year, which spans from the 24th of August to 1st September 2024! After the success of last year, we are pleased to be able to support this fantastic event once again.

The grant of £940 will be used to cover the cost of providing transport for participants and walk leaders for 4 walks in this year’s East Lothian Walking Festival.

Hilary Smith, one of the organisers of the event said, “The festival continues in its aim of encouraging more people to be more active through promoting recreational walking as a rewarding activity at all levels. We are committed to reducing and/or removing barriers to participation therefore we work hard to ensure our programme is inclusive, accessible and easy to join in. All of our walks and activities are provided free of charge, and are situated where possible, close to public transport hubs. However, where this is not an option, we provide coach transport. In adherence to ELC climate change strategy, we wish to reduce multiple car journeys and the pressure on our wilder places with our groups (and others) finding appropriate parking. Travelling together is also an enjoyable start/end to a walk. The East Lothian Walking Festival programme provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get out and about with others and explore our beautiful county while adhering to the Outdoor Access Code. We want everyone to feel the benefits to their physical, mental and social health that comes with such activity. Our walk leaders are all suitably qualified and experienced. We are very aware that signing up for one of our walks may be a “first” for some so we work to ensure all our walks are welcoming, safe, memorable and above-all build self-confidence. We want all our participants to feel that going for a walk is “for them” and something they can continue once the festival is over.”

Anouska, BeGreen Coordinator, is excited about the upcoming festival, “Being a keen walker myself I am so pleased that we are supporting the event again. Having taken part in one of the walks last year and meeting some of the organisers this year, it’s such a great way to help people who might not otherwise be able to undertake such activities. We are surrounded by such beautiful countryside and it’s lovely to share that with everyone.”
