News - Community Windpower donate £500 towards annual Dunbar community Christmas Lunch...
Community Windpower have donated £500 towards Dunbar based social enterprise The Ridge annual Christmas Lunch, in partnership with Dunbar Basics Food Bank and Rotary Club of Dunbar, for people in the local community who are socially isolated, lacking in funds, have no family and for many reasons cannot enjoy a Christmas lunch like many others. .
Community Windpower have supported the event since it began in 2017, donating a total of £2,150 since 2017. The £500 donation this Christmas is in addition to this total and shows our continued support for our host community.
The Christmas Lunch, which has been running for the last 4 years, will make its return to the local hall this December after having to deliver meals last year due to the pandemic. The Ridge intend on providing a combination of an in person event along with home deliveries for those who cannot attend or are uncomfortable being around others.
Every person who attends or receives a Christmas Lunch will also receive a Christmas present from the charity and for many this may be the only gift they receive.
The service is a collaborative effort and is run by a group of wonderful volunteers who prepare the food (apart from last year), shop for and wrap gifts, prepare the hall, serve the food, and clean down after to create a lovely day for people who need support.
This year The Ridge intend on purchasing 120 meals for guests across Dunbar, East Linton, West Barns, Innerwick and the wider community. The food is freshly cooked using food that has been sourced from local traders to support the local economy.
Diane Wood, Community Benefits Director at Community Windpower, which operates the Aikengall Community Wind Farms in East Lothian, said: “Christmas is a time of giving support to our family, friends and those around us.
“We are pleased to support the annual Christmas Lunch again and provide support to those who need it the most in one of our host community.
“We are thankful to all three of the organisations and the amazing volunteers who organise and deliver the event and give up their own time.
“We wish everyone involved a very Merry Christmas and we hope everyone enjoys their Christmas Lunch”.
