Wind power Covid-19 fund supports Marie Curie end of life care in the Lothians

Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar have made a £5,000 donation from their Covid-19 crisis fund to the Marie Curie charity.

The donation will enable Marie Curie Clinical Nurse Specialists to deliver an additional 125 hours of care to people in their own homes across Edinburgh and East Lothian, while wearing the PPE they need to deliver that care safely.

Marie Curie is on the frontline providing nursing care and support for end of life patients, with or without coronavirus, locally in people’s homes and in its Edinburgh hospice. The charity’s vital role at this time is to support the NHS by keeping as many people as possible out of NHS services, such as freeing up intensive care beds to help relieve pressure on hospitals.

Marie Curie fundraising manager Carolyn Snedden said: “This donation is a tremendous boost for us and will make such a difference to families at this time. For many people, hospital is not the right place for them, and they don’t want to go. Thanks to Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar we can help more people remain at home with their loved ones.”

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Aikengall Community Wind Farms in East Lothian, said: “We’re living in worrying and unprecedented times for everyone, and now is the time we need to dig deep and help people in communities that are being negatively impacted by this Covid-19 crisis.

“Marie Curie does amazing work with people in our local communities and we’re pleased to help the nurse specialists provide their care, safely at this time.

“We’ll continue to look at how we can use our Covid-19 crisis fund to help others in need across East Lothian.”
