Throughout the East Berwickshire and Dunbar area, there are 31 life-saving defibrillators installed in publicly accessible areas, providing a medical safety net for those in the surrounding communities. In the event of cardiac emergencies, these defibrillators (as they are registered with the Scottish Ambulance Service) can be easily located and deployed.Despite being simple to use, the defibrillators are important pieces of medical equipment which require maintenance and upgrades to ensure their continuous functionality. To achieve this, the £8,800 grant from CWL and BeGreen Dunbar covers the cost of:15 sets of replacement defibrillator pads;4 outdoor-suitable defibrillator cabinets and installation costs;1 HeartStart defibrillator;6 CPR training manikins;4 anti-choking trainers;2 defibrillator training kits and training pads.The East Berwickshire and Dunbar Area First Responders have been established for over 13 years, with 8 volunteer responders and 3 volunteers who oversee the servicing and maintenance of their collection of defibrillators.Anouska Woods, Community Coordinator at BeGreen Dunbar, said: “We are thrilled to provide...read more
