Come out and enjoy a fun-filled family day out at your local wind farm!! Saturday 24th June, 10am-3pm
Community Windpower Limited attracted an astonishing crowd to their 4th Family Open Day at Aikengall Community Wind Farm on Saturday, with the sunshine helping to make the day a glorious success. Over 500 people attended the community event with families enjoying a variety of free activities including the very popular tractor rides to the wind farm, children’s entertainment such as bouncy castles, archery and face painting and guided tours around the site. Visitors also had a free barbeque on offer providing hot and cold drinks and locally sourced burgers and sausages. Inside the marquee was BeGreen Dunbar, Young SET Ambassadors, craft stalls, a children’s corner and numerous information display boards on Aikengall Community Wind Farm, the recently consented Aikengall II – Wester Dod Community Wind Farm and the Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm proposal. There were also a wide selection of free promotional gifts for all the visitors to take away with them. East Coast FM was present playing entertaining music and providing a relaxing atmosphere through the day. Toyota also attended with their Prius hybrid car on show. We would like to thank everyone who helped out. A fantastic day was had by all and the money raised from donations will be donated to Dunbar RNLI. Aikengall Community Wind Farm has been operational since March 2009 and comprises of 16 Vestas V90 wind turbines generating 48 MW of clean, green electricity. This free community event was funded by Community Windpower Ltd which this year amounted to local spending of over £12,200.
A wonderful crowd turned out to the 3rd Family Open Day at Aikengall Community Windfarm on Saturday, despite some heavy showers amongst the lovely autumn sunshine and cool winds. Over 500 people attended the annual community event with families enjoying a variety of free activities including the very popular tractor rides to the windfarm, in addition to bouncy castles and a mini Waltzer, guided tours around the site, an opportunity to handle birds of prey and free burgers and drinks from the barbecue. Inside the marquee was BeGreen Dunbar with their solar PV display, Young SET Ambassadors, craft stalls, a colouring corner and an information display on the Aikengall Community Windfarm with free promotional gifts for all visitors. Toyota also attended with their Prius hybrid car on show. East Coast FM was present playing entertaining music and providing a relaxing atmosphere through the day. The Teenage Cancer Trust attended the Open Day as all donations received on the day were for this marvellous charity with a grand total of £500 donated to their East of Scotland Appeal. We would also like to thank everyone who helped out on the day including the Haddington Scout Group who assisted with car parking and the British Red Cross for providing first aid cover.
FAMILIES DELIGHTED BY AIKENGALL TURBINES Local residents and families visiting the 2nd Family Open Day at Aikengall Community Windfarm on Saturday were in awe of the elegant turbines spinning on the Lammermuir Hills and enjoyed the fun and activities on offer to all. A cool, bright autumn day attracted a marvellous crowd of over 700 visitors to Aikengall Community Windfarm, organised by Community Windpower Ltd. Visitors from the local area enjoyed tractor and trailer rides through the windfarm, guided tours around the windfarm, free children’s entertainment including bouncy castles and face painting, a free barbecue offering burgers and sausages provided by local suppliers, craft and local produce stalls and fundraising tables. BeGreen Dunbar and District and Sustaining Dunbar also had a stall which was well visited. East Coast FM was also in attendance and played live from the windfarm throughout the day. A fantastic day was had by all and the money raised from donations will be donated to Dunbar RNLI. A lovely autumn day attracted a fantastic crowd of over 1000 visitors from local communities to Aikengall Community Windfarm on Saturday 10th October 2009. Families enjoyed tractor and trailer rides around the windfarm, guided tours, children’s entertainment, bouncy castle, a BBQ and local craft and produce stalls. A fantastic day was had by all, with families also taking the opportunity to cycle around the windfarm or taking a gentle walk to stand beneath and touch the turbines. The Official Opening of the windfarm took place on Friday 9th October with Provost Richardson officially cutting the ribbon with assistance from the 2009 RNLI Lifeboat Queen. Over 150 people attended the official opening with speeches from Cllr Hampshire, Cllr Knox, Ken Fiddes of Vestas, John Hamilton of Aikengall and Rod Wood, Director of Community Windpower Ltd. Pupils from Dunbar Primary School and Cockburnspath Primary School also enjoyed guided coach trips to the windfarm on Thursday with Community Windpower Educational Ranger Pete Boustead and Richard Buckland, with the opportunity to explore the windfarm and learn more about wind energy and renewable technology. All money raised from the weekend will be donated to the Dunbar RNLI. Aikengall Community Windfarm has been operational since March 2009 and comprises of 16 Vestas V90 wind turbines which provide electricity for over 30,000 homes in East Lothian. |
