News - Renewable energy grant for Dunbar Bowling Club - 24th August 2015...
Community Windpower are proud to have helped Dunbar Bowling Club install a new Solar Panel system by providing a BeGreen Dunbar renewables grant of £5,423. The Bowling club took on a huge project refurbishing and updating their current premises. With help from various groups and the committee giving up their free time, the Bowling Club now has great new facitlities which include an extension, new kitchen, disabled access and toilets and changing rooms. The new extension which is an ideal place for functions can also be converted in to a 2 lane bowling alley. It is on this extension that the 3.975kW Solar Panels have been installed by Brian Spence from Lothian Renewables with grant funding of £5,423 provided by BeGreen Dunbar. Mr Ian Affleck, Property Convenor for the Bowling Club said: “The club are extemely grateful to Community Windpower for installing the Solar panels. We are amazed at how much electricity is being generated already. The savings we make on our energy bills can be put back into other areas of the Bowling Club, while we are doing our bit for the environment too. It’s a win, win!! We are so pleased with all aspects of the refurbishment. Having a new function faciltiy and kitchen means we can open up for parties and other functions. Also now the extension can be transformed in to an indoor bowling alley it means we can cater for bowlers in the winter. A bonus especially for the elderly so they can still use the facility”. Mr Affleck also mentioned that they really want the Dunbar youths to take up bowling so not only are they involved in the Active Schools programme where school children can go bowling on a Friday afternoons from 2-3pm they are looking to open all weekend; “With a great facility being on your doorstep we should open all the time, it’s a shame for such a fantastic place not to be open”.
