Case Studies - Energy efficient social club kitchen 2013 ...

Dunbar Castle Social club (DCSC) received a £2,520 BeGreen community grant towards upgrading their kitchen which will include installing energy efficient insulation to their kitchen walls and ceiling. The insulation work will save the social club around 1.5 tonnes of CO2 a year.

“The kitchen was very old and it had no insulation and was in need of extensive updating to meet current environmental health standards”. said Kenny Miller the club’s property convenor.

“We have now upgraded the kitchen, putting in insulation, hygienic work surfaces and thermal wall lining, upgraded the kitchen units and installed energy efficient kitchen appliances. It is a clean fresh and contemporary kitchen now!

The club is now an attractive venue for a wider range of uses in the community. The hall’s main hire period has traditionally been in the evening but with this single improvement the facility can now be used for other family activities e.g. weddings, christenings, funeral teas etc”.

To meet the expectations of this type of hire group the kitchen had to be improved. “We now plan to do more day hires. So the re-investment in our new kitchen will be a delight for those looking to do event catering at our club .The grant from BeGreen was greatly appreciated”.

This is the second phase of DCSC’s hall refurbishment work. They previously received a community grant from BeGreen in 2012 which enabled them to carry out energy efficiency measures to their main building including loft insulation, lighting, boiler upgrades. This now brings their property up to a good energy efficient standard.
