Community Windpower, through BeGreen Dunbar, have provided a grant of over £2,680 to support the installation of weather stations at two primary schools. The weather affects our daily existence, and it can have impacts on our mood, health, food supply, and the climate of where we live. From a young age, it’s important to understand weather patterns and climates, to help you plan for the day and become aware of being safe in dangerous weather, for example in very hot sun or in very strong winds. Furthermore, understanding the relationship between weather patterns and climate change can help foster a sense of responsibility towards our planet; this awareness can help children to adopt eco-friendly habits and behaviours. For Innerwick Primary School and Stenton Primary School, both in Dunbar, East Lothian, weather and climate science are embedded in the curriculum. The installation of manual and electronic weather stations will enhance the theoretical and practical studies of a range of ages within the schools, allowing them to observe and analyse the weather data right on their doorstep. To cover the cost of purchasing the weather station equipment, Community Windpower (through BeGreen Dunbar) provided a grant of over £2,680 to the schools! Anouska Woods, Community Coordinator at BeGreen Dunbar, said: “As climate awareness is really important to us, we are thrilled to be able to cover the cost of this equipment and ensure that the students have access to these great learning materials. We are excited to see how the equipment enriches their studies.” |
