Throughout the East Berwickshire and Dunbar area, there are 31 life-saving defibrillators installed in publicly accessible areas, providing a medical safety net for those in the surrounding communities. In the event of cardiac emergencies, these defibrillators (as they are registered with the Scottish Ambulance Service) can be easily located and deployed. Despite being simple to use, the defibrillators are important pieces of medical equipment which require maintenance and upgrades to ensure their continuous functionality. The East Berwickshire and Dunbar Area First Responders have been established for over 13 years, with 8 volunteer responders and 3 volunteers who oversee the servicing and maintenance of their collection of defibrillators. Anouska Woods, Community Coordinator at BeGreen Dunbar, said: “We are thrilled to provide this grant of over £8,800, following on from a grant last year of £4,000. Alongside the installation of outdoor defibrillators available 24/7, this grant will ensure that even more people in our wonderful communities are CPR and defibrillator trained. At BeGreen, we can’t wait to get more involved with this amazing organisation.” |
