News - Spreading Christmas cheer around Dunbar...
In collaboration with The Ridge, Dunbar FoodShare, and Dunbar Rotary Club, Community Windpower have donated £1,000 to support their community Christmas lunch programme which is returning once again this year. The lunch programme provides a hot meal and a Christmas gift to lonely and vulnerable people in Dunbar, many of whom would not receive any other gifts or Christmas cheer. The donation has been distributed by BeGreen Dunbar, using community benefits funds from our Aikengall wind farm array in East Lothian. The Ridge, a community interest group in Dunbar, have delivered this programme for 6 years, and this year they hope to return to a mix of in-person lunches and home deliveries to cater for those who perhaps cannot leave their home. Aside from this valuable Christmas programme, The Ridge aim to help Dunbar by creating jobs and training opportunities, protecting the local heritage and historic assets, and making it an attractive and welcoming place to live. The volunteers will utilise the £1,000 donation to support the costs of cooking the meals, packaging them, delivering them, and purchasing a small gift to give to each person alongside their meal. Costs have risen massively this year, and the representatives of The Ridge have highlighted that the need for these meals has also increased massively. Dunbar Rotary Club donated £400, and Dunbar Community Council donated a further £700. The combined funding and donations mean the volunteers at The Ridge can deliver over 120 lunches this Christmas, alongside a priceless amount of joy and love at a time when people need it most. Diane Wood, Community Benefits Director at Community Windpower, said: “Christmas, particularly in a world recovering from Covid-19 and experiencing a cost-of-living crisis, is the perfect time to spread love and kindness within our communities. We are delighted to provide this funding for the amazing work they do at The Ridge, and their selflessness and dedication is felt all throughout the year, not just in the Christmas season. We wish them all the best with the delivery of their Christmas lunches, and we thank them for all that they do. We also wish everyone in Dunbar a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!” Find out more about The Ridge on their website, or follow them on Instagram @theridgedunbar. |
