Keeping Dunbar looking bright during Lockdown

Dunbar In Bloom has been given a grant from Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar’s Covid-19 crisis fund to help the group brighten up Dunbar High Street.

The funding will help buy bulbs, seeds, compost and tools that the group’s volunteers require throughout the year to continue its fantastic work.

Dunbar In Bloom’s priority is to improve the appearance of the High Street and surrounding area which includes the large planters on High Street and also the surrounding area, with help from the local Traders Association and East Lothian Council.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Aikengall Community Wind Farms in East Lothian, said: “Dunbar In Bloom volunteers do a fantastic job in making the High Street and other areas of Dunbar look fantastic all year round.

“They have lots of ideas and suggestions about areas of the town that need to be brightened up, but rely heavily on local volunteers giving up some of their spare time to help. This is why we’re helping with a grant.

“In 2019 Dunbar In Bloom was awarded a gold medal in the Keep Scotland In Bloom campaign, and we hope this money from our Covid-19 crisis fund will help the group win more awards in the future.”
