Covid-19 fund supports Dalry Community Sports Club community work

Dalry Community Sports Club was been looking at opportunities to help vulnerable people with the community during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

And when an opportunity came along, it applied to the Community Windpower and the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust’s joint Covid-19 crisis fund for support.

The £2,500 of funding provided will support the educational and health and wellbeing challenges that exist, particularly through social isolation challenges that everyone is currently living through.

It is being aimed specifically at children, to help parents cater for the educational and mental health needs of the younger members of our community.

Dalry Community Sports Club is working alongside the Garnock Valley Community Hub and Dalry Community Development Hub, to ensure as many people and families as possible are supported during these unnerving times.

Community Windpower and the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust’s joint Covid-19 crisis fund money will be split into providing two elements of support to children and families – playground packs and educational arts and design packs.

The playground packs include a variety of bats, balls hoops, bean bags, skipping ropes and other equipment to encourage exercise and generally having fun, while the art and design packs have colouring pens and pencils, sharpeners, rubbers, paints sets, sugar paper, pritt sticks and sketchbooks.

They will all been purchased through the same company used by the schools, to ensure the children receive a high standard of equipment.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Millour Hill and Dalry Community Wind Farms in North Ayrshire, said: “It’s fantastic that the Dalry Community Sports Club is working with other Dalry-based organisations to ensure as many people and families as possible are supported during this situation.

“By also working with Dalry and St Palladius Primary Schools the £2,500 provided to Dalry Community Sports Club will directly help those who need it most in the community during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“That’s why, together with the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust, we quickly approved the grant application.

“We hope the items provided through our funding will help make a difference to the lives of the residents and their families, in this difficult time.”

Dalry Community Sports Club has also donated £1,000 to the current food for the vulnerable initiative hub, and, working in conjunction with Dalry Community Development Hub has set up a food and toiletries bank donation scheme.
