SURF WILL SOON BE UP AT BELHAVEN!

Exciting new Surf Centre will bring a new dimension to local sport, health, education and the environment!

The Centre will become a new home and hub for many in the local community and for those who travel to the glorious Belhaven Bay to enjoy outdoor pursuits. It will offer enhanced opportunities to promote active participation in sport, health, education and the environment.

The Wave Project, whose surf therapy programme helps excluded young people to grow in confidence and become more engaged in education, will base themselves here.  They will be joined by Dunbar Surf Life Saving Club - Scotland’s largest such club – who teach invaluable life skills through first-aid and lifeguarding. Local surf school, Coast To Coast who have in

troduced thousands of people to the joys of surfing, stand-up-paddleboarding, coasteering and other adventure sports over the past fifteen years will also make the building their new hub.  All of these be complemented by the wider activities of the East Lothian Countryside Ranger

Service, Active Schools and Surfers Against Sewage.

In addition to all of this, there will be two rooms which will be available for members of the public and local interest groups to hire.  The hope is that these will enable people to try out ideas and to see new initiatives grow and flourish.

Brian Allen, Director at Belhaven Surf Centre said, “The support of BeGreen and Community Windpower has been invaluable in enabling this building to be specified in an environmentally friendly manner. We want to create a legacy and it has been such a joy to see so many local groups become really excited by the vision and working collaboratively to see this realised”.

‘The £5,000 grant we have agreed to donate will go directly towards meeting the costs of new heating technologies such as air source, under floor heating and solar panels’, said BeGreen Community Co-ordinator Anouska Woods.
