News - LED lighting for Hallhill Sports Centre thanks to BeGreen Dunbar - 15th April 2016...
Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar are proud to have supported Hallhill Sports Centre by funding the installation of new LED lighting for the main section of the building. Hallhill Sports Centre is the main community hub for Dunbar and the surrounding area. Over 1000 adults and children use the facility each week and it is home to many clubs such as rugby, football, hockey, athletics, plus many more. As well as a hub for sports teams and sporting activities, the function rooms are well used by various charities, community groups and more recently have been host to weddings and christenings. Hallhill is also used for large national events such as The Scottish Pipe Band Competition which takes place every May. With it being so well used, the fluorescent lights were switched on for up to ¾ of the day generating extremely high electricity bills. It was therefore decided that a more energy efficient lighting system was needed to help reduce running costs for the centre. LED lights were the answer as they are not only very bright, but are extremely energy efficient and use considerably less electricity to run. Robert Peters, Manager at the Hallhill Centre, applied to BeGreen Dunbar for an Energy Efficiency grant for the LED lighting and was successful. The old fluorescent lights were removed and the new LED lighting system installed. Robert Peters said “The new lighting system has been a great asset to the building. We used to have all the lights on for at least 16 hours a day but with the new LEDs they are so bright that we often have to switch half them off. That in itself is a huge benefit. Without the grant funding of £2,600 the new system wouldn’t have been possible so a big thank you to Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar. We have had great feedback from all users of the facility too which is very encouraging.” Picture shows Bobby Peters, Hallhill Manager |
