CWP Sponsorship enables 10 year old Ukrainian girl Dasha to enjoy a 3 week visit to Ayrshire - Sept 2014

Community Windpower Ltd is Patron of the Ayrshire Link of the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline charity and through their annual donation of £500, is proud to provide sponsorship for one child to visit Ayrshire for 3 weeks of respite.

At the end of July, a group of 16 Ukrainian children came over to Ayrshire thanks to the hard work and endless fundraising by Chairman Michael Lafferty and his team of volunteers. Of these children, 10 year old Dasha Kostiushko was selected to benefit from the sponsorship from Community Windpower which covered the costs of her trip. Dasha comes from a poor family and suffers with ill health so this opportunity to come to Scotland meant so much to this little girl.

In her Thank You letter Dasha wrote:

I saw lots of beautiful and interesting things, went to the beach, went swimming, visited the zoo park, museums, castles – I saw things I will never see again, we were all so lucky”. She continued, saying “This trip has been so good for me, my health and happiness; I want to thank everyone who made this possible”.

Dasha and her classmates also visited the dentist and the opticians and received treatment as required, with Dasha receiving one filling and a pair of glasses to help her eyesight which she though was good as she could “now watch TV from her chair and it is so much clearer now”.

Following the announcement of this Patronage earlier in the year, Dasha was the first child to be ‘sponsored’ by Community Windpower. This sponsorship will be provided for one child each year for the foreseeable future.

Michael Lafferty, Chairman of Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline said:

Thank you to all at Community Windpower, you have no idea what these visits mean to the children and what it means to me as the Chairman to have your help in raising the money I require each year to bring more children over”.
