News - BeGreen Dalry is now a Food Parcel Collection Point - updated April 2014...
The North Ayrshire Foodbank, managed by Craig Crosthwaite, is a food parcel distribution point operating out of the Ardrossan Church of the Nazarene, located in Ardrossan. They receive funding from The Trussell Trust which operates foodbanks on a national scale. On Friday 4th April, Kenneth Gibson opened the foodbank service at BeGreen Dalry. Kenneth Gibson MSP said: "I am delighted to open the foodbank distribution and collection centre in BeGreen Dalry. Sadly foodbanks are a lifeline for many people unemployed and working. This facility will make distrubution of the food parcels so much easier for the people in Dalry. It is also great to have a collection point in BeGreen where food can be donated. Visit the shop and ask Sandra for a list of the food that is used in the boxes." Currently the North Ayrshire Foodbank receives no other form of funding and most items of food are donated by the general public. However, in the North Ayrshire area, travel costs to reach the distribution centre to collect food parcels are too expensive making it impossible for people to travel and collect their parcels. Therefore volunteers are operating a very limited delivery service to rural areas, at their own expense. In order to reduce the distance that people have to travel to collect their food parcel, BeGreen Dalry has stepped in and has agreed to become a new collection point/distribution venue for local residents who are entitled to food parcels. The first food parcels were delivered on 21stMarch by Craig Crosthwaite (pictured opposite) and both Educational Ranger Pete Boustead and Energy Advisor Sandra Scott, along with Community Windpower Ltd are delighted to be supporting this valuable local service. |
