News - Covid-19 crisis fund helping North Ayrshire's Anam Cara Care Home...

Many care home residents in North Ayrshire, either permanent or temporary, are facing weeks or even months without seeing relatives.

So, when the Anam Cara Care Home in Kilbirnie approached us and the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust for help through our Covid-19 crisis fund, we were pleased to be able to support it.

The fund is providing almost £2,000 to purchase tablets for patients to have video calls with their families, alongside new PPE equipment and essentials for patients being transferred to us from hospital.

The care home is also creating a ‘wellbeing area’ within the reception are of the care home, which will be used to by both staff and the Garnock Valley District nurses.

It means they will all have a space to relax in between visits, have something to eat and drink, stock up on PPE and use the restroom. The area will be accessible 24/7 as the care home is always open and staffed.

The ‘wellbeing area’ is being designed to help reduce staff stress levels, offer them comfort, let them know how proud their community is of them and that they are really valued in the current situation.

Anam Cara Care Home usually takes people who have dementia for respite, but due to COVID-19 it is now taking delayed discharge patients in order to free up hospital beds.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Millour Hill and Dalry Community Wind Farms in North Ayrshire, said: “During this time of social separation, people in hospital or care homes can often find themselves very restricted on physical visitors.

“Instead they rely on technology and each other for entertainment and keeping in touch with friends and family.

“This is why, together with the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust, we agreed to help Anam Cara Care Home.

“The nurses and staff their provide a much-appreciated service to some of our most vulnerable residents, and we hope the items purchased through our funding will help make a difference to the lives of the residents, their families, along with everyone who works there.”
